Ok, now I discovered some really strange behaviour. I captured 34 HDV tapes using HDVSplit on Windows and imported the resulting 1714 m2t files into Avid Media Composer 5.0.3 . If you have access to the tapes, I would try using HDVSplit to generate the m2t files just to see if importing those work. HDVSplit's GUI includes two settings related to "packets" which may come into play as well.
