• Re: Make Media Composer ignore disk so it doesn't scan

And for future reference, the scan always happens twice on every media drive that has Avid media. Once to discover media and create the database, and a second time to create the index file.

  • Re: MC6 and Surround Sound
Thanks, Ben: so I need to throw money at the problem!
Isn't that always the case? :) Although an upgrade to MC7 will be cheaper than buying I/O hardware that you won't really use except for that. I had MC7 on my laptop in trial mode at one time and never looked at that aspect. Might have to try it again

  • Re: MC6 and Surround Sound

IN my case, and think this will apply to you, when I was testing this capability on my home machine, I found that supported I/O hardware had to be installed in order to get the surround output mode. PC Sound cards would not do it. What I ended up doing was buying a Matrox Mini Max to get the Surround Output modes. I have never been able to get the Surround

  • Re: XDCam MXF op1a export MC7

Don't think so. XDCam's native resolution is 1440x1080. You have to use HDCam to get 1920x1080. Even in MC5.5 when we "Export to Device" to an empty XDCam folder, the resulting file is 1440x1080 when exporting from a 1920x1080 project. Our HD server interpolates the differences correctly as near as I can tell. I'm willing to bet

  • Re: HP Z800 Start Up Issue

We had a problem with our z800 a couple of years ago where it would suddenly power off when the video card initialized. Turned out to be the PSU. Fortunately it was still under HP warranty and the replacement cleared up that issue. The PSU had become weak and was not outputting it's full capacity.

  • Re: Moving Avid Media Files and re-pointing Avid to them

Not quite. Refer back to Pat's previous post. ALL new media will ALWAYS go to the \Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1 folder unless it is full. Then it will go to the next numbered subfolder with available space. AVID wil NOT refresh the media databases in any subfolders that have been renamed with Alpha characters. IF you were on a PC you could trick the system

  • Re: Project file extension?

You have 3 file types associated with any project. .avp is the project file, .avs is the settings file, and .avb are the bin files. All of these files for any given project are grouped together within the project folder. At least that is how it is on a PC. Not sure if extensions are used on the Mac. For portability and interchangeability I would assume

  • Re: Optimize z420: DOs and DON'Ts

When I setup my z400 all I did was follow the install guide and readme file. Works like a champ for me. I don't like letting software do things for me. I am enough of a control freak that I want to know what I've done to my system so I can undo it if need be.

  • Re: Surround Sound Mixing

Also, I was experimenting with Surround Sound when MC6 came out and found that you cannot select that mode unless you have supported hardware attached that supports surround sound. My workstation PC sound card was not enough.

  • Re: How to fit a large video on to DVD?

If you want a menu, export a Quicktime Reference to take into AVID DVD. If it is OK to have your video as the first play on the DVD, use the File > Send To > DVD One step.
