  • Re: What is an AAF file?

We use AAF consolidated to a folder as one means of archiving timelines. Puts the timeline and all your clips and media into a specifided folder for easy transport or copy to another location.

  • Re: question: duplicate effect template without losing parameters

Older project? Same version of Media Composer? Seems it should be ok. If the project was created in an older version of MC I could see this behaviour happening. So, are you trying to duplicate the effect the same way you duplicate a clip in the bin? I don't think I have ever tried to do it that way. Never saw a reason to I guess. I will have to

  • Re: question: duplicate effect template without losing parameters

I have had great success by dragging the effect as edited from the effect editor into a bin. After adjusting all the settings in the effect editor, drag the effect icon from the effect editor into a bin. Then rename the effeect clip in the bin so you know what it is. It is then ready to be used on other clips as a simple drag and drop from the bin to

  • Re: Need to provide a CLOSED CAPTION FILE for client

Typically, the creation of an .SCC file is done with a Closed Caption authoring program such as MacCaption/Captionmaker. Those tools are quite expensive. It may be more cost effective to get some quotes from a captioning service. There are a number that can be found online. Free software such as Subtitle Edit or Magpie (WGBH National Center for Accessible

  • Re: External Drive Question

My choice to use RAID 5 was driven strictly by the need for space. With my 4 1TB drives, RAID5 gives me 3TB of working space. With RAID10 it would be 2TB. And this was a step up in space form the stacks of SCSI Media Drives I had been using. I haven't heard any negative reports from the editors who layer their video tracks. I think we were on this

    K. I was just curious about the Thunderbolt since that is primarily an Apple thing. I have no complaints with the SAS drives in our GSpeed esPro. I configured the box to RAID5. With 4 drives, that stripes 3 with 1 for parity. Speed plus protection against a single drive failure. Ours came with a HighPoint card instead of the ATTO card though. One plus

  • Re: External Drive Question

We have had good results with our GSpeed eSPro on our Z800. I don't have any experience with the Thunderbolt setup. I'm curious as to why you are entertaining the Thunderbolt setup on a PC? Will you be sharing the storage with a MAC?

  • Re: Dealing with Lost Data (Questions)

If you were adding effects the render files will likely be there. Depends upon what drives you have selected for the different operations in the Media Creation settings. If it is just render files, they can be recreated once all the media is relinked. You can also recreate Title media very easily.

  • Re: Upgrade is a downgrade

[quote user="ScottmFed"] I understand. I know Avid is not to blame, I am just frusterated in the fact that Im going to have to drop A grand because of compatibility issues. All my Adobe products seem to work fine with the OS update but Avid is going to cost a grand. I understand the it is my fault for not doing my research but I had a emergency

  • Re: What Are Chances Alienware Gaming Laptop Will Run MC7??

Home Premium is the other questionable spec. Win7-64 Pro is the OS qualified. I don't know if others have had much success with using Home Premium or not. I seem to recall some posters with problems centering around using Home Premium. As far as I know, the only real difference between Home Premium and Pro is network and sharing options. Which could
