Actually you only need to have flash in your browser, the spinning circle indicates that you have. Either you don't have the latest version of flash, or a very slow connection. Usually the clips start (almost) immediately after initial buffering, no more than a couple of seconds delay. I just tested some clips, the problem must lie on your end.

AVI is not a compression format, but a container or wrapper around the actual compressed a/v data. Which compression format is used inside the AVI file can be selected in export settings, the "right" one depends on your intended usage. Additional Compression CoDecs can be installed in windows, i'd recommend "ffdshow tryouts"

If you have to do this regularly: go for eSATA drives, there are even some USB/eSATA hybrids around. Still no match for a well build internal raid, but you at least you can edit from a eSATA drive.

Usually DVD is interlaced, so you might want to keep it that way. But make sure you use the right field order on import and export, as far as i know DVD/MPEG2 and DV are different (at least in one of PAL or NTSC standards - can't remember, sorry).

As I understand, the Ikegami GFCams use flash memory packs to store full hd resolution MPEG2 in MXF container. Have a look at the various "how to import MPEG2 media" threads.
I have purchased the full version and have no such issues! The conversion quality looks better than the Sony Vegas route when imported into Avid with DNxHD120. I'm delighted!
I'm glad to hear that! Just to clarify: are you shooting in thin raster (1440x1080) or full raster (1920x1080)? At least some

Actually I wasn't talking about SD when I mentioned "lower quality" clips, I was thinking of different bitrate versions of the same resolution - sorry if I mislead you. MC has a very powerfull media management, you can rather easily re-link clips used in a sequence to other versions of the same shots, allowing you to do a rough cut from

Each time you fast-import m2t clips into MC the video-data is essentially re-wrapped from MPEG2 container into MXF container, so the re-wrapping happens without anyway. But i doubt that re-wrapping would increase stability, at least not unless the provided container is broken. Only conversion to a short-gop or gopless media format in a MXF container

This sounds like in your case the problem could be specific to the trial version - in all my tests with the paid version my results were reproducable, no randomness there. If you like you can send me (some of) your clips and i can testdrive them through Upshift.
-
Avid MC _is_ picky about the file formats it can fast-import, i guess that is because the "fast import" is only re-packing the mpeg2-stream into a MXF container. Earlier versions of Upshift didn't work with my Sony AVCHD footage at all (or, to be more precise: MC couldn't import the files, while other NLEs could). I talked to Newblue
