A QTref export of long GOP media would only be physically possible if the receiving application could reconstruct new frames after cuts.
what if MC would render it like it does with every dissolve? just the GOP sequence of the outgoing and incoming clips? that would be just some frames, so it could be quiet quick
-
had some hours to test, that's what I experienced: - QT REF export is NOT supported - you still get the "long GOP" message - writeback works, but speed seems to be too slow (tested it on my notebook as my main system is in the middle of a huge project - took 6 minutes to export a 2 minutes sequence) - writeback works only in standard mode

I agree with jveekeres and I even would say that Avid is doing the same thing again right now again! "End to End" supporting MC 3.5 doesn't support QT Ref exports - a workflow that many editors use every day to send their sequence to encoding. that's still impossibel when the timeline contains long GOP media - f.e. XDCAM. transcoding
I'm pretty sure I answered all your questions about pricing.
I'm pretty sure, that many users still have the questions on the pricing: - will avid continue this upgrade-pricing-structure? (also discussed in the "300 bucks..." and "MC 3.5 MAC" thread - why do customers that use the webstore
-
had some time today to test 3.5 on my notebook while my main system was batch capturing. the result? poor: - got an ACCESS VIOLATION error during startup. never faced this with 3.1 - confusing: while AMA is enabled, OUTPUT TO DEVICE -> XDCAM is just greyed out. no further comment. output to xdcam works when AMA is disabled. is this a "feature"

the XDCAM Pro User group had some news on XDCAM & Mac - didn't take a closer look, as I'm a PC user.... http://xdcam.com.au/modules/news/ the news says something about FCP - not shure if it's usefull to MC users too. and here you may find the software: http://www.sony.co.uk/biz/view/ShowSiteSection.action?sectiontype=BC%20Tools%20XDCAM&site

maybe "Media Databse viewer" will help you: http://fiool.nm.ru/progz you'll find some info when you search the forum for "MDV". or you take a look at this thread: Moving a project from one drive to another to work on an other avid

ups - copy-paste didn't look nice... second attempt: Applying the Avid Pan & Zoom Effect To apply the Avid Pan & Zoom effect: 1. Using standard editing techniques, load a sequence and create a placeholder segment of the duration you want for your image. For information about editing a sequence, see Creating and Editing Sequences: Basics
have the scopes play realtime.
I was of course thinking of realtime. very good that you write it!
Is this a codec problem? It's really a mystery.
as you don't mention which codec you use and don't tell us anything about the settings (datarate, a.s.o.) it's really a mystery. but I think Carl is right - it's a performance problem. harddrives have a much better throughput than most DVD
