• BUG - Timecodes in AAFs are messed up

Media Composer 8.4.2 I have some AVC Quicktimes from a Canon 5D Mark III with timecode. When linked in MC the timecode of the clips are correct; for example 08:56:53:25. However once I cut these clips onto a sequence and export an AAF, the source timecode hour referenced in the AAF goes totally wonky, showing up as 32:56:53:25 -- a full 24 hours added

  • Re: Log tools for Avid Media Composer?

I looked at MovieSlate and wireless LTC transmitters/receivers like the Timecode Buddy last year, but the hurdle I could never get over was ultimately 'attaching' the marks/notes to the linked camera originals in MC (R3D clips in this particular case) in any sensible fashion.

  • Importing WAVs with numeric filenames

I have a file called "Scratch 11_19.wav" which where 11_19th. When I import this into Media Compser, it winds up assigning the source as being from A19. When I export an AAF of a sequence using this clip, it's looking for track 19 in a source file that only has a single mono audio track. How do I turn off this "feature"?

  • Re: I'm dying here!!!!

As for the AMA not relinking, what options were you using in the Relink dialog? Was the footage originally cut from AMA-linked material, or did it get transcoded after the fact? As for the dinging trying to type in timecodes, try just re-selecting the correct code over the source monitor pulldown.. IE Source > V1 > TC1

  • Re: Trouble Importing DSLR Video
The NLE has to recover individual frames that can be accessed in any order, arbitrarily scaled, and modified in real time with various effects.
MC can't even play them. Only play. Not talking about scrubbing, non-sequential playback, multiple layers, or any effects. Premiere can. $300 Sony Vegas can. Free VLC
The original AMA linked files may well not playback nicely as they are H264 and very demanding so you need a very grunty system.
Even 'grunty' systems don't work, because Avid uses Quicktime's decoder which is its self trash, but the bigger problem seems to be Avid's Quictime bridge service

  • Re: Color Adapter

You can choose to bake the transform on when you transcode, but if it's showing the color adapter there on your transcoded footage (little green dot on your clips on the sequence, and/or you can turn on in the Color Transform column in your bin to see if anything's there) then it should be removable/modifyable.

  • Re: Color Adapter

When you link to certain files MC will recognize them as being shot in Log, or having full-range levels, etc. and apply a LUT to them. If you do a 'Source Settings' on the clip you'll see any Color transforms applied and can remove or bypass them. You can then do a 'Refresh Sequence > Color Adapters' if you need to update all

  • Re: What does Avid use as identifier for AAF?

The path/filename of the original file a clip was imported from or linked to should be maintained whether it was transcoded or not, and that should make its way into the AAF. Depending on the media, the UMID is also in there which can be helpful for matching clips as well.

  • Re: Moving Miraizon ProRes codecs to a new PC

I think the serial registration didn't come in until V2.x, so yeah if you're running the older V1.x ones you just have to copy the codec.
