• Re: Best audio settings for capturing?
You're probably not going to like this but.... If you were color blind, would you attempt to colorgrade your media yourself? I'd strongly recommend getting a sound recordist for your shoots and farming out your sound mix to someone without the hearing problems you have.
DUH. When I'm ready to do this professionally

  • Best audio settings for capturing?

I'm having a problem with audio, and I have tinnitus, so it's hard for me to judge. I have gotten feedback twice now from friends that audio has been distorted on two videos I made. I always set my camera to between -20 and -12 on the audio levels when shooting, and when I edit I go thru the whole track, making sure levels stay at the right

O...kay... I've done audio mixdowns, but didn't know you could do a video mixdown (I can't believe no one ever told me that - LOL). I guess it's the same process? Is there anything I should know in particular? Would this make the file I export smaller, too? Thanks...

  • Any way to "flatten" layers of video tracks & FX?

Hi all, There are two sections of a video I made which have several video tracks with layers of effects. Didn't seem too intensive, just several titles over brief sections of footage to which I had applied "Region Stabilize." It looks great in Avid and in the video I exported (Mpeg-4). This video is meant solely for the web (and a DVD

  • Re: are you kidding?

The cable channels mentioned in the ad are NYC's Public Access channels (I'm in NYC). I'm sure the ad really meant $1.00 per finished minute -- the shows on Public Access here are generally 30 minutes (there are some for 60 mins, but not many). This one in the ad is a hip-hop show. I haven't seen it but the music shows (no matter what
Yeah, you need to be careful here. Even Jimmy does not use it on his reel, he should get the artist (the one Jim is doing the video for) to sign an indemnification form to help him stay clear of some legal issues. Not bullet-proof by any means, but a bit of documentation if anything goes awry.
Oh, something
In short no, your friend Jim is contracted for the project to videotape and edit. It would be up to the performer or essentially the person who "owns" the footage, to secure the proper rights. Jim would only be responsible if he were to maintain ownership.
Phew! That will be good news to Jimmy
...if you are recording that performance and creating a video that will be sold (being paid for your services is "selling") or that video will be presented to the public (ie, the performer's myspace page), then rights have to be secured for any music performed in the video....
Hi again. So

Thanks, Larry, this is a good start. Now I'm also wondering if there are any websites with templates for such types of contracts. I'll have to investigate. Being a student, I don't think Jimmy will be able to hire a lawyer. Also, does anyone know whether or not Jimmy will need to get clearance for any of the songs that this musician will
