Firecat: Dreamer, one effect that I use frequently is a combination of delay and superimpose. For a sequence the workflow is I copy V1 and overlay it on V2 with a 2 or 3 frame delay. I will then apply a superimpose effect on all of V2 at anywhere from 40-60 % transparency. It gives a semi strobe like effect. You can vary the delay by moving V2 earlier

Yeah, you're right, I was thinking "special effects" and wrote SFX. Now fixed it to FX. Silly me!

So I guess there is a soft focus effect?

Pardon me for not knowing about the Alt+drag technique. Everytime I have tried adding a second effect to a clip, it negated the first one. I was told by several people and have read that you can only have one effect on a clip. Sorry I was wrong - that's why I came here to ask how to accomplish this.

  • FX for dream sequences

Hi, What Avid effect could I possibly use that will create a hazy dream-like quality? I was thinking of using color correction to bring the contrast down and make the image whitish, but I'd also like to blur it a little or, better yet, give it a soft focus with halo. Xpress Pro doesn't allow more than one effect on a clip at once, though, so how can

  • Re: audio rubberbands -- what am I missing?

You have to select Audio Auto Gain. Also, I have found that they don't always show up unless you widen your audio tracks. Place the cursor over on the left column at the bottom of each audio track and drag it so they are wide. Make them wide enough to see the numbered horizontal lines representing decibels. I've never had to select "Add Keyframe" from

  • Re: How to subdue traffic noise?

Thank you so much! Fortunately, I just made arrangements with my actors to reshoot two of the noisiest scenes, and I will use the equalizer for the other scenes. Shooting in the streets of NYC sure is a challenge when it comes to garbage trucks, buses, screaming children, car alarms, and passersby thinking if they duck and run in front of the camera

  • How to subdue traffic noise?

Hi ~ I shot some footage outside where the dialogue sounds great, but the background has some noise, like traffic, people talking, some wind hitting the mic. Can the Audio Equalizer in Avid fix that by punching up the dialogue and minimizing the noise? I probably won't have an opportunity to reshoot. Thanks.

Hi, I'm new here, been lurking and scanning the forums. Just wanted to recommend another book which is very clear and reads almost like a user manual: Avid Editing by Sam Kauffmann
