Hi Larry, thanks! I'm really dumb about these things. Is there a backup function already in Avid or am I just copying these files to another drive or computer?

What happens to all my projects and files when I uninstall XpressPro? Also, if I do the free trial first, how do I then do an official upgrade to MC?
An HDV deck rental from my favorite rental house here in Boston only runs maybe $75-$175/day (depending on the deck etc) You could rent something one day and capture what you needed and use your XpressPro software.
I hadn't thought of renting a deck. But I didn't think my system as it is now
Why do you have the audio on separate CD?
Better sound that way - also because we had the camera on a dolly and so we got a sound guy to record separately so he wouldn't need to be tethered to the camera. I devised this project as a way to learn lots of things, including what it's like to hire people

Thanks, Larry. I do want to upgrade the software anyway but think I would also have to upgrade my workstation with new video card, new processor, other stuff, AND get a deck. That all adds up. George, I only have a little SD camcorder - this project was shot by someone else using her camera. Anyway, I'm not a techie and would need guidance on how

Last year I graduated from a community college where I had developed a good relationship with everyone in the media department, and transferred to a senior college, where I am not a film
as long as your film is for the web or even DVD Distribution, DV is fine. Your audience does not care what kind of equipment was used. And I hope you make your film for them and not for some "techno experts".
I want to enter festivals, too.
Camera equipment is only a small (but important) part

Everyone who has posted in this thread totally rocks! Thanks so much - I don't come here very often anymore but I'm so glad I did this time. My mind was spinning, I was feeling frustrated and way far behind in terms of being ready, but you all picked me up and got me back down to earth. I will not be deterred! Dreamer D
let the camera and DOP worry about the RED camera and the editor worry about the edit system all you need to do is sell your project to them.
As producer/director/editor, I have to worry about everything!
Many, Many great stories have been told with DV cameras and Xpress 'Pro and I am confident that your will be too! It's not the tool that build the house, it's the carpenter....
Omigosh, thanks Blkdog, I really needed to read that because I was ready to curl up in a ball and cry. I guess when I go to
