This has been a bug since V 8.0. There is an easy way to get the waveform back: Click the source/ record button twice and the wavforms should appear, at least they do for me.

I'm happy to say that 8.4.3 seems much more snappy when working with waveforms on. 8.4.2 was terrible with long sequences and waveforms on. Now the performance is pretty close to the way it was on MC5.5! Overall 8.4.3 seems stable but I've only run it for 2 days.

I have seen this problem many times and it is nearly always corrupt media. The Avid seems to handle a certain amout of corruption but at a some point it craps out with this message. I recently did an upgrade and found that after installation of 8.4.2, many of the Avid Quicktime components were deleted and replaced by 4 new ones... And Avid DnxHD Quicktimes would play as black, audio was OK. I went into my OS backup and copied the old (12 in total) Avid labelled components into Mac HD/Library/Quicktime. Me too... Roll back to 8.0 and your problem will go away. Does anybody at Avid test these releases? FACT: Most of Hollywood is still using V5.5.
