Unfortunately the reason why Avid didn't simply fix or upgrade the classic Title Tool is technical, and has nothing to do with budget or intention. Apple themselves physically stopped supporting a massive swath of the underlying codework in the classic Title Tool.
I wish Avid could just create a

Thanks for the tips, but its still not very efficient if I have to set up a process on a second machine just to save 5-10 minutes here and there. It would be easier if Avid allowed you to put non-editing processes in the background such as importing, exporting and database building, (like they do with rendering and transcoding).

Often when I'm delving into my archive I have to stop my edit for my machine to scan old mxf folders and rebuild the data bases. Is this not something that could be done as a background process? Even if it ment loosing access to that MXF folder, it would help by now stopping the edit. Thanks Jake

I had this problem with some Third Party plug-ins. They hadn't been updated and just didn't work in this version of MC. Removing all third party plug-ins and a fresh install of MC may do the trick.

At what point during the opening of the application does it crash? Does the application automatically close, or does it stall during opening processes? Jake

I think what the developers have missunderstood with Title Tool + is exactly what editors have been using the Legacy Title Tool for. Yes, we all had a long wish list of additional features, but as for myself I use it for: Neat holding text, simple lower thirds, and low budget jobs that need simple text on screen. I love the fact that with Title Tool

You can do precisely this with 'Scratch Removal' Make an Add Edit. Add the Scratch Removal effect - Draw your shape - Select 'From Start' , and that part of the image will remain frozen.
