it's by design. you need to additionally click on the zoom bar to zoom "all the way" in - it helps with caching and redrawing waveforms. so if you don't intend to zoom all the way in, it protects you from a waveform redraw.

If you Import the OMF, it should contain the media, and potentially the sequence. It has been a LOOONG time since i have used OMFs, but for an AAF, one has the option to export (from avid and many other applications) solely the metadata, or embed the media in the metadata. what happens when you IMPORT the OMF?
