I read somewhere that DNxHR is backwards compatible with DNxHD. Does that mean that essentially DNxHR is the same codec as DNxHD, just allowing for the larger frame sizes and different frame rates?

The latest in the Avid Tips and Tricks series was posted recently. Avid Editing Tips and Tricks XI includes a collection of tricks that take advantage of the OPTION / ALT modifier keys.

If you've consolidated all the neccessary media to the new drive, all you need to do is copy the bin that contains the consolidated sequence to your new destination as well. The bin that contains the sequence, also contains all of the master clips that are used in the sequence.

24p gives you a better picture for the datarate if you are producing for corporate where most videos are deployed via the web. If you are producing for TV, I would think the video should be shot for whatever frame rate the local TV system uses.

[quote user="Kyle"] Now well that's disappointing. It's my favorite go to tool for end credits and minor vfx without needing to leave MC and I was just starting to get really comfortable with it. I really am not digging the idea of needing to pony up $600 a year to get access to After Effects now and needing to export/import new media

Thanks for the quick response. That makes Avid FX a total risk to use in a collaborative environment - it's no longer guaranteed that a system will be able to view sequences that use it. That's too bad, I was just getting used to using it.

What type of interlace problems are you running into, reversed fields?

Does anyone know if Avid FX is going to continue to be a core part of the Media Composer in v8.x? I can't find any information that talks about Avid FX in the upcoming version. It would be a shame if sequences with Avid FX become incompatible with new versions of software.

There is a Avid FX Title-Matte Effect that theoretically lets you affect the title without affecting the background. The drawback is once you add this to your title, the title is no longer editable. Your best bet is to rebuild the title in Avid FX as Andrew suggested.

I find that to be one of the frustrating things about Avid FX (Boris RED) - why can't you use the right-arrow key to increment it 1 unit or the left-arrow key to decrement 1 unit? I have to do the same thing - type in a number plus or minus a couple of units from the previous setting. Not very user friendly.
