Yes, like Robert Bowlus above, I have been running MC 8.6.x and have found it to be rock solid and a HUGE improvement in performance over recent builds. And I've also been pushing it hard with Neat Video and Baselight Editions, and it hasn't crashed once in weeks. Very robust. Thanks! Chris Conlee

Yes, I spent a fair amount of time trying to figure it out, and I'm not a newbie. Never could, so I had to do a clean install of OS X 10.10.5. But I now live in fear of the day that it happens again. It's definitely something Avid should try to lock down and squash. Chris

Oh boy, I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't. I had a similar situation a month and a half ago; MC would always crash on MC State initializing. Never found a solution, unfortunately. I had to completely blow away my drive and re-install OS X 10.10.5 from scratch to get it to work. Not ideal. http://community.avid.com/forums/t/160642.aspx

It's converting a highly compressed (probably) h264 codec into a less compressed and more easily editable codec. You're not gaining any new information, per se, but you are making files easier to work with. The h264 codec is a long GOP codec, whereas the Avid native codecs are frame based.

By the way, if you can, I would change the subject of your thread to indicate "8.6 crashes on MCState Initializing," or something similar, so it's easier to find, along with my earlier thread with the same problem.

Oh boy. I had that happen two weeks ago when updating to 8.5.x and was never able to get it fixed. i ultimately wiped my entire hard drive and did a completely fresh install of Yosemite and MC to get it working. I had hoped mine was an isolated incident, but now I see it's not. I would recommend posting your crash log here and hopefully somebody

I went hard-core and just reformatted my entire HD and started from scratch. Tired of screwing around. The only thing installed now is Yosemite 10.10.5, Avid MC 8.5.3, and Adobe Media Encoder CC.
