Maybe the original files were a volume such as AVCHD, CanonXF or whatever, rather than individual files? In that case, you'd relink to the volume and it should automatically relink everything that's on there.

AVI exports from Avid have had a max size of 2 GB for a LONG time (at least 15 years, based on Google searches for this error message). There's likely another file type that you can use for whatever you need - and it'll probably export much faster, too.
