Sorry for the long delay in replying. It works more seamlessly than I expected. Worth noting that I transcoded old .omf files to .mxf a long time ago.

IIRC Resolve does not recognize DV at all. Will double check shortly. Edit: Please disregard. Just successfully loaded DV clips in Resolve 17 as .mxf, .mov, and .avi. It took longer for the video to load than the audio so the clips appeared as audio only for a time.

With Zoom files, use link rather than import. (File/Input/Source Browser/ make sure link is selected at lower left ) Once the file is linked you can transcode it to whatever Avid native format you prefer.

In your 1:1 project (1080x1080?) don't use "Reformat/Center Crop." Change "Frame aspect ratio" to 1:1 and leave Reformat as "PillarBox/LetterBox." This gives you the flexibility to reframe as needed.

Those programs haven't been updated in years because DV hasn't been updated in years. They still work just fine.

Premiere has had this forever, it's called grouping. FCPX calls it compound clips. In each, you lasso the clips you want to join together and they maintain their relationships.

If you import the footage, avoid any manipulation of it -- color correction, reframing, motion effects, dissolves, wipes, etc -- and output it at exactly the same resolution, color space and format, there will be no difference between the methods. If you plan to do any of those things, linking, transcoding and relinking back to the original will produce

In the post 32-bit quicktime world, ProRes 4444 seems to be the best solution. You can also go with a .png image sequence, but it takes longer.
