Expanding Library of Media Composer Tutorials
I am a relative newcomer to Media Composer (early 2008) and as I began to feel my way around I got the idea of documenting my adventures by creating short video tutorials, Avid had already a large number of excellent, professionally produced tutorials online. I learned very much from watching them. However...

Avid for Liquid Users: Lesson 7 - Long GOP problem /HDV to a QT-reference file
The seventh in a series of tutorials created to assist Avid/Pinnacle Liquid users who are considering migrating to Media Composer. Many newcomers, myself included, come to MC with an HDV camera and capture through a firewire card. Then the first time they try to export a QT-reference file, up pops the...

Paint a Path with AvidFX
I once used BorisFX as a plug-in to Avid Liquid and later in MC 2.8 to paint paths. I never could get consistent results. After upgrading to MC 3.x and installing Avid FX I found that the Paint a Path effect was much easier to apply and control. AvidFX (Boris Red) still presents a steep learning curve...

2 New Buttons in MC 3.0.5
There are, of course, more than 2 new buttons! These 2 are, however, 2 that I have been hoping for. They give you the ability to select all tracks to the left or the right of the cursor with a single keystroke. The tutorial also shows the process of mapping them to the keyboard. As usual my tutorial...

Mapping the "Toggle Source/Record in Timeline" to the Keyboard
This is a follow on from the previous Tutorial about toggling between the source and record monitors in the timeline. Again, intended for the newcomer, it also introduced the idea of keyboard mapping. I missed one point in the tutorial. I should have mentioned that you must select "Button to Button...

Adding "Black" vs "Fillers"
