I'm just starting to learn about the marquee tool. It seems very expansive which is great but as far as I can tell, one thing is missing. Does it have the capability to animate the text on and off in a fancy way, other then changing the opacity? I know programs like After Effects have lots of preset animations than you can add but I can't find options like that for the Marque tool.
Any help would be appreciated.

There are a reasonable number of them. Enter type on in the Marquee help should get you started. There was a Avid Marquee tutorial on this site. (My old bookmark to it does not work)
Did you say that I should type "type on" in the marquee help? I couldn't find anything like that. I've found the styles library. Is that what you're talking about? Specifically "Avid Styles" and "Avid Templates" but none of those seem to be fancy ways for the text to come on and go off.
ThanksSpencer
Typeon is under Scripts (Avid templates or something like that)
Probably searching help for scripts, styles etc should get you started. Setting the timeline duration for scripts usually catches me out on the rare occassions I use Marquee for this sort of thing so help on timeline duration may help.
Good Luck
Also, your online library should get you going, about 600 pages well worth to study

There is a terrific tutorial by Dave Forsythe on iTunes. Just search Avid Tech. You can also try GeniusDV's website, they have some awesome tutorials that include Marquee.

And of course, don't forget our friend Douglas.
