Experienced users of MC probably never give a second thought to such basic concepts. However Newcomers to Non-Linear Editing in general and Migrants to MC in particular can have difficulty in understanding even simple procedures until they have understood these very basic concepts. Thus the Title - Before Basics.
This tutorial deals mainly with the differences between Splicing in, Overwriting functions. Also it points out some differences between those functions and the Drag & Drop method of editing.
Although I would suggest that newcomers try to get used to Splicing and Overwriting the MC way, there are times when a Drag & Drop approach can be useful.

Jomaro,I used TechSmith Camtasia Studio 6 to make that Tutorial. There are quite a few effects in that programme that can be added when editing to screen captures.
Now I use Camtasia Studio 7.
