bobby7z - Have you had any success with capturing HD footage into AXP on Leopard?  I've got it semi-working for just cutting, but haven't been able to capture anything yet.

And yes I know nothing is supported, but if you have the time, it doesn't hurt to have some fun and try.

Re: MAC OS X - Leopard

wow you will get your head bitten off  by the blkdog for just asking a question maybe that dog needs to be FIXEDBig Smile or mabey just some time  off

as i need to get a new laptop since my sound guy  knocked  mine off the magliner on the last  shoot  and now it is kapute 300 pieces and yes the sound guy is paying for it

so i went into the local apple store to get a mac book pro 15'' mon .but they are only shipping them with leopard now!  and the guy at the genius bar and i use the term loosely told me that  the dvd player /burner was changed and it will not work  with tiger . so now i need a laptop for a remote show im producing may 2  so as you all can see i dont have the option to even use my avid that i allready own  because of this os problem   and with the impending announcement from avid they say  feb im betting that really means march ,april,or may and i did not want to buy anything(hardware or software) untill it was made  (as you all have advised) so i will have to go out and  rent a  remote editor for the show ...now how is avid's  slow responce helping me.. in fact it is now costing me money the thing so many of you say  your certified systems save you as i recall last time i looked at the list of cert systems the mac pro was on the list

Why not run the PC version under Bootcamp, until the Leopard version is released?

Although running under Bootcamp works, some need additional Mac apps for a seamless workflow, and they'd rather not have to boot back-and-forth.  So it might not be a "complete" solution.  But, for many, it'll get us through while we're waiting.

Uh..I really don't think that i "bit" anyone's head off here...havin' a bit of fun maybe,,,

As to why...one big reason is that not all of the GFX cards in the MBPs will support the Windows XP version of Avid. ATI has a particularly rough time.

Tom, I apologize if you perceive an "edge" to my typing. Most days I am posting here in between renders with a client in the room so I am guilty of being overly brief I suppose.

Please know it's with the best of intentions.

Now, as to your new MBP. It is true that you cannot install Tiger from the internal optical drive but, what we have done is attach the MBP to another Mac and boot it in FW disk mode. With the MBP in that mode, you can use the second Mac to run the Tiger installer and successfully downgrade the OS on the MBP.

Just in case the Bootcamp thing doesn't work out.

Re: MAC OS X - Leopard

I've been following this thread of late, because I've just ordered a MacBook Pro - - I now know how to install Tiger. Thank you for this.
For me, unfortunately, that's just step one.
I don't suspect that most people on this forum would have any real reason to plumb the depths of my next conundrum, but I'll mention it, just in case BLKDOG or someone has figured out a workaround for this as well.
Since Sony's Clip Browser, on a PC, “re-wraps” the Sony EX-1 camera's .mp4 files to MXF (so they can be imported into AXP)... but the Clip Browser for Macs doesn't do this... I'm left with either this new EX flavour of .mp4 files on my MacBook Pro, or (I think this is the case, if I use an XDCAM transfer tool), .MOV files. And I don't think I can import either file type into AXP.
So... the approach I'm thinking of taking, unless/until Sony and/or Avid update... is to run VMware of Parallels on my MacBook Pro, so I can use the PC version of the Sony Clip Browser to re-wrap the EX files to MXF, which I'll put on my desktop. I'll then boot in MacOS, import these MXF files into AXP, and edit.
Does this sound right? If so, do people on this forum have a preference between VMware of Parallels?
    Thanks,
    Malcolm

Re: MAC OS X - Leopard

Maybe I read that wrong Malcolm but you CAN import .mov clips into your Avid.

If you are going to just run the clip browser in windows, I would go for VMWare.

However, since QT pro will open .mp4 could you not just export to the codec of your choice from there? Better yet..will compressor transcode those files?
