This may have already been addressed in newer versions of Avid (my job uses 2018.12.13), but if not, it'd be really helpful to have more marker / locator colors. I'm an Assistant Editor. Between VFX, ADR, Online, Color, Subtitles / Stock, notes from my editor, sound notes, and more, I've run out of colors. I've used Green for VFX and Cyan for Color, but they look almost the same on the timeline.
Why not!

Thanks for this post.
Adding locator colors is certainly a topic of discussion internally here at Avid, and we are researching not only colors but also textures and other concepts... because many AEs and editors have various levels of accessibility needs (color blindness etc). Part of the research includes how to add things without breaking backwards compatibility... like if you create some new locators in 2022.x but then send the project to someone running 2020 or 2018.
But yes... a strong need and a good request.

Since there's a limit to colors in the spectrum that look different enough accessibiliy-wise (ex. I can't really tell the difference between a green and cyan on my monitor), maybe a way to get more markers is a different shape (ex. a rectangle that looks different enough)?
Backwards compatibility: good point. That wouldn't be an easy nut to crack.
How about emojis?
(Turns... runs away giggling...)
But seriously, yes, different shapes - and even simply wider locators - have all been suggested and are indeed being discussed.
Sometimes the discussion leans in the direction of the other color abilities that have come out in the last couple of years - where you'd get to have standard colors, but then also pick custom colors from the OS color picker itself. (A common way to combat the backwards compatibility issue.)
I'll definitely add this thread to the internal feature request list.
