Hi all,
Avid will be releasing Media Composer 2022.4 very shortly. As many of you know, Titler+ has been an incredibly hot topic for a long time. There have been may things contributing to this. In January of 2021, the project was assigned to a whole new team, who promptly got to work. They received all of the original notes on the project from circa 2018 (including the massive list of customer feature requests for the classic Title Tool), combined it with all of the newer feedback on the 2019-2020 versions of Titler+, and began development. Media Composer 2022.4 will be the first of many releases this year to include some fixes and feature changes, based on everyone's feedback.
I wanted to share with you a note from the new Titler+ team...
-------
Hello everyone,As valuable partners you are in helping us make Titler+ better, I wanted to share with you its current status and what to expect in the near future. For the past few months, we've added more resources to the Titler+ project to make this tool fast, stable and with additional features you've been waiting for. the work is still in progress, but you should start seeing the improvements starting 22.4 and the following releases. Our main focus (and biggest effort) is around performance and that can be divided into 3 sections: rendering time, interactivity and typing speed. All three require a deep dive into Titler+ architecture, optimization of the core code and a lot of testing and therefore it takes time. The first piece of the puzzle, typing speed, will be available with 2022.4 - you should see a significant improvement while typing text in the Composer window. Performance improvement for horizontal T+ segments in the timeline should also be noticeable with this release. These improvements are being added to more than 80+ bug fixes, that should improve the stability and predictability of Titler+.Having said that, I don't want to create the impression that this release will solve all of Titler+ issues and that the work is done . We are aware that performance is still a burden for interactivity and rendering time for stacking titles and rolls - but I want to assure you, that the work continues with full power, and that with the following releases, the other pieces of the performance optimization will fall into place as well as more bug fixes.I want to be as transparent as possible with you, so please feel free to ask any questions you may have. and I also encourage you to download MC 2022.4, and test Titler+. As always, please provide us with your valuable feedback (good and bad). Just please, take into consideration the information I shared with you above. Thanks,Elad

Thanks for the update. It's refreshing when Avid is clear and transparrent about the situation. Everyone was hopping for a complete fix, but understandably this will be ongoing. I have personally stopped using the tool for 2021.12 completely and if its on a timline, i instantly delete it.
Because it previously has been so bad, our office changed the entire workflow. Resulting in the accounts dept asking questions on why we choose avid over, cheaper competing NLE's. Given that we already have a foot in each camp (because of the title tool) Lets hope this will allow us to stay with Avid.
So.... is MC 22.4 now fully working with Monterey 12.3.1. Reluctent to upgrade given the previous issues with MC 21.12
Yes indeed.
2021.12.2 and 22.4 both work with Monterey 12.3.0 and 12.3.1.
Hey Chris, I just tested the title tool. It's still unusable in a production workflow. No real time playback on a 16core, 128 GB mac. The interface is more responsive, but not ready to use on jobs. Rendering time (as you mentioned) is a serious issue. For now, we’ll stick with the Sub cap tool and embarrassingly farm titles out to the Adobe Dept.

I can relate to the slow timeline performance. I'm curious as to what you think of the reorganized UI?
Thanks folks -- The performance has been addressed, but as mentioned, not fully yet... but mainly because performance is registered on a system by system basis. I'd be very interested to hear from people who are not seeing much improvement in performance -- exactly what specs they have. That would help us SOOOO much.
- What system
- Number of cores
- What video card?
- What video card firmware version
- Exact RAM count and RAM speed
- exact macOS or Win version
- etc, etc
Thanks!!!
After a 2022.4.0 Crash iMac Avid MC First Won't Open
Now Running Mac os 12.3.1 with 30 dy trial, but crash happened on 12.3 and did all the uninstalls of MC and Link and imac restarts. even striped Avid State Files and still got "Avid Media Composer quit unexpectedly warning box with reopen, report of ignore options.
I just updated the iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2019, 3.2 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7, 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4, Radeon Pro 560X 4 GB) and downloaded the MC free trial but getting the same warning when i try to open MC. I do notice in my Avid Link account it is showing both the MC First and the ultimate trial MC with the new trial MC at the bottom with now bottom to open. FYI MC First was running fine for a day before the crash.
After a 2022.4.0 Crash, iMac Avid MC First Won't Open
Bryan ODonnell: After a 2022.4.0 Crash, iMac Avid MC First Won't Open
Hi Bryan,
Would you like to create a new thread here: https://community.avid.com/forums/377.aspx
Link me to it and I can assist.
Yes, I do I link you to it?
Also, I purchased a subsciption to MC hoping it would solve the problem but it did not.
Great I saw it by viewing your recent posts on your profile.
Hi Philip,
I'd say because the core problem is not rendering time or anything like that. It's just a hopelessly inelegant un-intuitive piece of software that makes me want to punch the screen every time I try to use it.
I can't install the latest update as I'm in the middle of a job (I'm on a MacMini M1 running Monterey and 2021.120) but reading these posts makes me think those underlying issues have still not been addressed.
But I'm happy to be corrected.
David
