    DNxHD with Alpha Channel

    Hi,

I would like to use DNxHD op1a .mov as my export codec for a video file with an alpha channel. Is this possible?

I have tried to export this type of file from all kinds of different software: after effects, premiere, resolve, fusion, nuke, etc and everytime I choose a DNx codec it comes out with a solid white alpha instead of the shape I created. I do the same thing with ProRes 4444 or Animation codec and I get the correct behaviour. I thought DNx supported alpha channels? As I said above, it does seem to carry an alpha it's just a full white screen instead of anything useful. Please let me know if there is something I am doing wrong here!

    Thanks!

    Re: DNxHD with Alpha Channel

    Hello!

DNx codec supports embedded alpha for DNxHD/HR compressions. How the feature is used, depends on specific application. Only embedded alpha is avaialble in MXF OP1a. In MOV some applications also might store DNx+alpha in old-style dual frame form. To understand what's going on, could you please share with us (if possible) samples with DNx+alpha (1 frame is enough) you exported in abovementioned applications.

    Thanks in advance!
