Domain Resolution Failed. Please send this data to Avid Engineering

    Hello all,

    Hope you can help.

I am getting this error saying " Domain Resolution Failed" and i am not sure what is causing it. It happened when I tried to playback my timeline on my second monitor. It worked fine till now. The monitor is connected with a HDMI port. Any idea what can cause this reaction from Avid? And How can I fix it?

    Thank you so much.

Try restarting with the monitor attached and check the Full Screen Playback settings.

Also, go into your Avid Media Composer folder in your Applications folder and look inside Supporting Files then inside of the Avid_MediaFiles folder and see if there are .mdb and .pmr files inside that folder.  If not, reinstall the program.

    Hi,

Thank you so much for your reply. it is definitely something going on with my playback monitor, which is attached with an HDMI cable, while the main monitor is attached with a mini-display cable into the thunderbolt port. Those are two identical same resolution DELL monitors. I am working with a macbook pro, late 2015, 16 Gig, 2 graphic cards. AMD RADEON 9 M370X and Intel Iris Pro.

someone can tell me what it is the best way to connect the second monitor into my mac?

    Thank you.

Check your System Preferences Displays setting to make sure both montitors resolution is set to Default and that the arrangement is correct.  Open Avid and select the Full Screen Playback setting and drag the windw into the monitor you wish to use as a Playback montitor and select that monitor in the dialog box.  Finally, go to Full Screen Playback on the Composer menu and select it (or hit Command-Shift-F).  If it doesn't work, make sure that your Format is set to a size equal to or smaller than the resolution of your montors (in other words, don't try to play 4k on a HD monitor).  If you get the same error, write back with details and I will try to duplicate the scenario it to see if it's broken and send it onwards if it is.

    Ok,

thank you so much for your answer, but the situation has not been changed unfortunately.

First, I erased the pmr. amd mdb. from the avid media files, then opened the project and selected the full Screen Playback settings, selected the second monitor I want to use and hit ok. It worked. Then, close the Avid. Reopened it and when I hit play it give me the same error again. Very Upsetting.

I ended up to download the newer version of Avid (uninstalled my Avid 9, then re-install the 10) and same issue again! I cannot believe it!

So the only way to keep working for now, is the kill the second monitor and work only on my one Monitor Dell (besides my macbook pro), setting the full screen playback on that.

However, when I do that, the system takes some time to adjust and the first time I hit full playback, it gives me a black screen, then image is back and playback is back. Please help!!

    Anyone there?

Could you please advice about this issue with avid crashing on second monitor ? PLease! I have re-installed the software but the issue is still there. Maybe something with the hdmi? Or a setting that I need to change on my system preferences?

Was the monitor in the MacBook Pro active when you had the 2 Dell monitors connected and tried to do a Full Screen Playback?

You might want to call Avid Support and see if they can solve it over the phone with you.

Yes, the second monitor was connected indeed.

Also, another very strange behaviour, but maybe a syntom, is that when I connect the second monitor and I am not on AVID it works perfectly. Then I disconnect the second monitor, rebooth my system, open avid now set on only one monitor. And when I hit playblack, it gives me a black screen first, that starts playing but I am  not able to use any other key and freeze the software and my computer as well. Only thing I can do is shut down the computer manually.

Isn't too weird? I am still waiting for avid support to call me back.

Re: Domain Resolution Failed. Please send this data to Avid Engineering

Hopefully support can talk you through your delimma.

Meanwhile, here are some things to know:

    1. Media Composer used to expect that all monitors being used when it was running were at the same resolution.  That has changed recently but if you're running a older version of the software with two or more monitors of differing resolutions, expect "unexpected consequences".  Windows are going to expect they'll be the right size on either monitor.  That might not be true.

    2. When in full screen playback you need to click the mouse to get out of full screen playback mode.  If you hit Escape you'll see the other Composer monitor.

    3. It seems that the clicking on Select Monitor in the Full Screen Playback window doesn't work as expected when running MC 2018.10 it stays stuck on one montior and won't ever use the other one.  Your mileage may vary (hopefully).

    4. Changing monitor resolution or disconnecting monitors when Media Compsoer is running will result in "unexpected consequences".  Basically, things will stop functioning as expected.  Don't change hardware or system preferences when the program is running.

    5.  Force quitting the application and then restarting Media Composer with a different configuration can result in "unexpected consequences".  The application might be looking for the monitor that it thought was connected and you'll be wondering why you can't see some windows.  If so, you can either reset the workspace settings to default or go into the Avid Users folder (probably in your Users/Shared folder) and find the file named MCState and move it elsewhere before launching Media Composer.  That file is a snapshot of where you last left off when you closed the application sucessfully.

I'm getting this same problem.   Kind of frustrating to get an error message that demands I "email avid engineering" but doesn't include their email address.

    Try this......

Just run the avid uninstaller in your applications folder.   Then repair permissions on your internal HD.

Restart and then run the MC installer that works with your OS or that you were using prior.

    Report back

Re: Domain Resolution Failed. Please send this data to Avid Engineering

For me it is only one user's setting that has the problem, so I don't think uninstalling is in order.   But "fullscreen playback" is set the same in all of the user settings.

I know the answer is "recreate the user settings" but it would be much easier to know if there is something I can flip/toggle that would fix this, or something the user is doing that has caused this.

Until this bug is fixed, the simple solution is to disable "Dual Copy Engine" as suggested in this other thread by

    Jakub V:

Go to SETTINGS > PROJECT > VIDEO DISPLAY SETTINGS and UNCHECK the Dual Copy Engine.
