Quicktime reference files show black in Adobe Media Encoder

    Hello,

I am aware that it is likely to be an issue of Adobe Media Encoder, however I want to ask here too because knowing if other users encounter the same issue might help to isolate the error:

We often use Quicktime reference files, and suddenly no one could be interpret correctly by Adobe Media Encoder. It only shows black, but gives no error message. It encodes without a warning, but the result is a encoded file with correct audio but black picture. Selecting or deselecting the option 'use Avid codes' changes nothing.

As there were numerous updates both from Adobe and from Avid, I cannot narrow this down to a certain time.

    Thank you

The latest version of Adobe Media Encoder (2018) no longer supports Quicktime Reference Files. A work-around is to install the 2017 version as this still works.

ah great, thank you very much. That solves the problem for the moment. Yes

Is known, if some kind of 'QT reference similar funcationality' can be implemented by Avid beside/without Quicktime?

Because to be able to export references was one of the most valued advantages for us over other NLEs.

Ya bummer about Media Encoder not supprting that any more. Will try the older version.

But what do people in general find is the fastest way to make a file of appropriate sixe to get up to Vimeo, doesn't have to be super-high quality, just something to screen on a laptop. In the past a quicktime ref and then use external software to crunch to H264 was the fastest, but now that I'm working remotely without an AE to help, I'm wondering if there's a better way.

Op1A MXF, then use an encoder like AME.

Please vote for this issue in the Adobe Uservoice Forum - maybe it'll help. You need an Adobe account for this.

I’m still using elgato turbo H264 (software only) on a Mac to encode QT ref files, it’s really fast with intel quick sync.
