Toggle mute clips (as opposed to mute and unmute)

Be useful to have a seperate shortcut/command to 'toggle' mute clips. (2018.4)

Was looking forward to using MUTE feature to quickly compare clips in the cut to the tracks below them with repeated presses of one key. Disappointed to learn it was one command to enable and another command to disable, but I mapped them to adjacent keys. However I was really disappointed to learn that the clip(s) get deselected after pressing either key, so you can't keep toggling on and off to visually look for changes.

Back to putting the two versions in the play and record monitors, gang rolling them and pressing escape to switch between them for now....

So I was reading in another thread on this same subject and one of the posts mentioned some good reasons to stick with the old method.

    http://community.avid.com/forums/p/182863/924703.aspx#924703

They do have a point, so there is an easier solution:

All that is required is for Avid to add one extra button which is a toggle, and keep the other two buttons exactly as they are - then we can choose to either map a toggle that inverts Mute and Unmute, or map the two existing buttons for their current function.

They did this for Trim, although it was three buttons + a cycle trim button (Tail, Tail+Head, Head and Cycle-through-trim-modes buttons).

BTW, This thread is the most concise so I'm adding useful comments from other threads (and links to them) for the sake of containing them all in one thread.  This is for the sake of the engineers so they only need to go to one thread that stays on topic. Here goes:

    First thread:

'Mute/Unmute Clips' should be a toggle

"The fact that we can now Mute clips is a really handy addition in MC8.

But I do think it should be a toggle instead of 2 separate commands. This would save a shortcut button, but more importantly it would enable the editor to change the status of a number of clips all at the same time.

Let's say you're researching some music, and there's a bunch of different music tracks lined up. All tracks are muted except for the one you're reviewing. If you want to listen to a different track you have to select the active track, mute it, then select the new track and unmute that one.

If 'Mute/Unmute' would be a toggle, you would select both tracks at once, and just hit the 'Mute' button. The active track will be muted while at the same time the new track will be unmuted."

    Next thread:

Media composer mute clip should be a toggle short cut.

"This is my most basic feature request ever.

Having 1 shortcut key to mute a clip (my U key) and making another shortcut key to unmute (shift U) seems a little redundent.

Can it just be the same shortcut key to mute and unmute?

    just a suggestion. thank you"

And then I do a ramble about other ways to select mute clips - it's pretty much the same as I wrote above in this thread.
