Hi - my support plan renewal is due again. In that last couple of years I have, out of fear, renewed it, but this time im seriously wondering about not.
My question is this.
If I dont renew, and then have some issue with my Avid in the future, will Avid refuse to help me at all as I dont have an up to date support contract. So in a nutshell is the whole thing based around making me afraid enough to make me fork out again and again.
Or would avid talk to me about a version that was released whilst I did have a plan in place, but not offer any further updates.
I think that for large businessed whose trade revolvs around avid MC its a no brainer, but for people like me who arent in the pro game its a cost that really im struggling to justify?
Any thoughts
Peter

Everyone has different needs but for me it's about staying current with the latest features and support for the latest 3rd party tools such as BCC and Saphire. It does get expensive and honestly, the annual cost of MC is just a drop in the bucket. I'm not sure how to answer your question.

You can buy support on an adhoc basis so if you have no interest in upgrading in the future you could let support lapse and just buy it when you need it.

If you let support lapse, the license is frozen. You would need to purchase a full new license if you then need a new version. Or rent one (subscription) for a month or a year.

1. If I dont renew, and then have some issue with my Avid in the future, will Avid refuse to help me at all as I dont have an up to date support contract. So in a nutshell is the whole thing based around making me afraid enough to make me fork out again and again.
If you do not renew your plan, then your perpetual license will remain working but only at the last version you were entitled too prior to your plan lapsing. You can always rent another license should you need it month to month or yearly as well but if you do not renew that, you loose the rental entirely but the perpetual license will remain again at the version you had prior to the plan lapsing.
2. Or would avid talk to me about a version that was released whilst I did have a plan in place, but not offer any further updates.
Avid would assist you with any issues as long as your plan is valid. if your plan lapses, then your access to Avid would be via community.avid.com or any of our social media channels.

One aspect of this right now is that PhraseFind and scriptsync are coming out but you would need 8.8 to run those so if you have any interest there, you would want to renew at least one more year.
