Hi, problem with Avid shutting down randomly. One PC has just started doing this - I thought it was just on a particular project that got corrupted but it seems it's a general problem. It's had this error for a couple of weeks - I updated from Avid 8.4 to the latest 8.5.3 to see if that help, but it didn't.
Normally it just shuts down with a windows error message of 'Avid editor has stopped working' but this morning I got this error code:
mac2qt_assert: !m_nativePaintingStarted
Location: ..\..\src\QtPixmap.cpp:107_cdecl
Mac2Qt::BitMapPtr::~BitMapPtr(void)
Googling it doesn't return any results. It would seem to be something to do with quicktime but it has a fresh install of the correct quicktime version. I tried the recommended Nvidia drivers but then my composer window wouldn't display properly so I have now rolled back to 347.52.
Might to do with quite an old GPU (Quadro FX5500) I guess...? I'm about to update to Win 10 anyway so might try removing Avid completely and reinstalling, unless any has a fix for this?
Thanks in advance
Dan
Hello Dan,
Did you try new profile settings?
Regards,
Ralph
Hi Ralph,
Eventually I just reinstalled. I was upgrading to Win 10 anyway so thought I might as well do a clean install of Avid.
It seemed better at first, but has crashed a couple of times in a similar fashion. The trigger seems to be click and dragging any clips from the source window (I tend to prefer this for speed rather than using the overwrite key) so I still think it might be a GPU issue. As the GPU is old (FX 5500) I couldn't get the correct Nvidia version drivers to install - I had to go through a few old Win 8.1 quadro drivers to find one that the GPU would accept.
So I guess a GPU upgrade is on the cards!
