Video Card upgrade Question.

I am currently running Avid 5.5 on my Mac Pro. It's an OS X - 2x2.8GHz Quad-Core (Snow Leopard) I was looking into getting the ATI Radeon HD 5770. Good? Bad? Any suggestions on what would be a better one? Willing to spend between $250-500. Also, my Mac is late 2008 edition.

Videocards on OSX will make almost no difference to your editing experience. Something with 512MB on board RAM (or more) is optimal but even then it won't make anything faster or better. The card you mention is fine.

So updating a video card on an older mac pro will have no benefit?

As far as Avid is concerned: likely not.
