A long shot, but just wanted to confirm that I have to use the audio mixer or use my mouse to increase and decrease the db level of clips? Just wanted to check that there was no other way of doing this with the keyboard?

You can click in the "level" display window for a given channel (or gang of channels) in the audio mixer and enter a specific db amount with the keyboard.
