Forgive me if someone has posted this already, but I thought this was very very interesting news about Bunim Murray changing over from FCP to Avid...

yes, this is all over the Avid-L and FCP-L. Makes perfect sense for them to make that switch. However, I am not sure how many companies with that workflow ever switched over to FCP...rather they stayed with Avid. This is a nice PR piece, but won't increase the stock price.

The Ellen Degeneres show switched from Avid to FCP and then back several years ago. So while it is not common, there is precedent.
I've said it before, and again and again, Avid has THE BEST colaborative workflow out there.
Happy Editing!
but, what is more important than these headlines is what I am seeing on the street. A couple of the post houses where I 4-wall suites for clients are heading to Media Composer after starting up as FCP shops. Not nearly as many seats, but if that precedent holds, then Avid gains traction on new revenue and new editors. And for me, it allows for my recent upgrades to MC 6 on the three suites I have to be compatible and drive more work through Media Composer, which will be great.
While a big reality shop in Hollywood is a nice press release, the real news for Avid is the conversion or "re-conversion" of the broader base, non-broadcast based shops back to it's product (or starting up with it's products). If that is real and continues, there could be bright days ahead for Avid. Dare I buy a bit of stock now? :-)

In anticipation, I bought at $5.99 in early November ... ... it still maybe a good value.

Randall, isn't that technically speaking, "Speculating on Avid"?

Nice, Douglas!
Well, the purchase was quietly, made outside the forum.
Bunim-Murray's Mark Raudonis explains why they switched from FCP to Avid.

Hi Editors:
Enterprise, enterprise, enterprise. I think this is where Avid shines. If you do the whole Enterprise solution, including ISIS 5000 or the bigger one and interplay, then you can import and move any clip based workflow around @ lightspeed. Media Composer has the best media mangement around, I don't think anyone would dispute that. I'm hoping and waiting to see what 64 bit will do to MC in terms of faster renders and perhaps a future of more realtime workflow.
Question for Marianna: Marianna, when Avid goes into a major production studio like Bunim-Murray or a TV network like CBS or NBC with an enterprise solution, do they do a standard off the shelf product delivery, or do they actually go in and custom design a personalized, custom tweaked with Avid engineers to match the solution exactly to the needs of the enterprise client ? Always wanted to know this.
Thanks,
Mark Job
The thing is don't peak too early in life.
Mark - that really depends on the customer and if they already have a relationship with a provider etc...
In this case Bunim had an existing realtionship with a channel partner and that partner did a lot of the "what to buy" work with the Avid Sales folks in our Burbank office. Sometimes Avid will work direct as well depending on need and size and complexity. Really depends... so thats not a Yes or No answer :)
