A friend of mine has a Meridian kicking around. Can I hook it up to my Composer 5 and get analog in/out?
Sorry, no. The last version of Meridien was v12.x. It ran on Mac G4's and HP xw8000's. After that, Avid reset the version numbers to 1.0, and released MC Adrenaline. The current MC v5.0 is kinda like v17. Adrenaline has now been EOL'ed, and the new Avid hardware is the Nitris DX and Mojo DX. Avid also supports the Matrox Mini for monitoring, and the AJA I/O for I/O.

Hmmmmm.... So is there anyway to import/export analog from it to create files the current avid would understand using a modern computer? If I find old 17 software, will my dongle work with it?
You have v17 software. It's called v5 because Avid reset the version numbers after v12.. There is no way to use MC v5.x (effectively MC v17) on Meridien hardware. And, as I said, Meridien will not run on any computer newer than the Mac G4 and/or HP xw8000, running the legacy OS's.
To clarify, any version of MC past v12 will not even see Meridien hardware, and Meridien hardware will not even run in any system newer than those listed above.
Rats!:)
