    Capture problem

So I mistakenly captured a bunch of HD footage at SD resolution. It worked fine, just looked like crap. So now I'm trying to re-capture... actually, I'm just starting from scratch... this time in HD.

The video is on miniDV tapes and I'm using a Sony HRV-M15U deck.

So I've got the fire wire hooked up and the Capture Tool recognizes I have a deck and the deck controls make the deck work, and the video plays to a separate monitor I have connected to the deck.

However, I'm getting no image in my composer window and after I hit Capture I get an error message saying "Exception: Audio/Video is no longer coming into the system"

Can anyone help? What am i doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Make sure you're in a HDV project and that the deck is set to output HDV rather than DV.  You can also do a search here for the error for more suggestions.

Must think of something clever to go here...

    Re: Capture problem

Thanks for the tips. I double checked the deck settings and as long as I have the i.link setting  (HDV>DV CONV) set to DVCAM, then it there are no problems, but of course, I'm not importing in HDV. When I change that setting to OFF, which is supposed to send the signal without the down res, that's when the problem occurs.

Some of the other posts on this problem suggested the video card. Not sure about that. I am running MC5 and am on a almost new iMac.

Also, make sure you're using the correct raster dimensions for HDV - 1440 x 1080.

    Re: Capture problem

Thanks, where do I set that? Can't find it on the capture tool and it's not an option on the deck.

It's in the "format" tab of your project window.

    Re: Capture problem

Thanks, found it and it revealed another problem... the tape was shot at 24p and the deck won't play that. Thanks again for the help! I'm off to find a deck that will work with this tape.

You're welcome. And since you haven't mentioned it, be sure your project format is set for a 24P option.
