Hi,
I recently upgraded from 32 bit xp to vista 64 bit business, and have upped the ram.
The system can now open heavily effetced sequences, i.e, large bins, which previously were causing out of memory issues.
I can, without question, see a performance improvement.
I notice that windows 7 is not qualifed for symphony nitris classic on vista 64 bit, that said has anyone had any luck running Windows 7 64 bit?
I have several annyoing mouse / cursor freezes which I think are vista isues, so on the one hand I can now work without frequent software restarts, but on the other I am losing my patience with the mouse.
I have changed the cursor and power schemes, checked drivers etc.
FYI usb mouse (have checked usb power management etc).
Any ideas?
Owen

I've ran that setup for about three weeks. Seemed to work fine, although I felt that it was ever so slightly less responsive than my SN4-Vista setup. Decided to trade-in to Nitris DX. AFAIK, the only reason it is not supported by Avid is that HP will not officially support Win7 on the XW8400.
Thanks - a vey useful reply.
I'm tempted to give it a shot!
One more thought: whenever I do a move like this, I clone my internal HD with something like Norton Ghost or Casper, so that I have an actual physical drive that I can put back in my computer and continue with the old install at any point in time.
I do the same thing Job does. Always clone the system drive. With almost any drive you buy these days you get a free copy of software that will allow you to clone your drive.
The only issue I have had with the XW8400 / W7 config is that every time I launch Symphony, the window comes up short on the bottom as if leaving room for the task bar even though the task bar is minimized. It means I have to drag the Symphony window down after launch every time.

Job,
Did you keep the 8400 or did you upgrade the CPU also?
Nitris DX is not supported on the xw8400 (or xw8200).

I still had a 8600 as my assist station (with a Red Rocket in it). The XW8400 is now my assist station and the 8600 became the Symphony Nitris DX.
Does the nitris dx not work in the xw8400, because of the slots available, or that Win 7 is not supported by HP on the xw8400?

Hi Randy,
IIRC the Classic Nitris did work, but was unsupported. Don't think I ever tried Nitris DX in that config, though. Not sure why it wouldn't work, but there's some black art to slots and cards....
Well, slot 3 "is" PCI-e. The card & Nitris DX work. The installer even did the firmware update successfully. Meanwhile, I get "Assertion Failed" with MC v8.x and freezing on a white screen with MC v7 or 6. 16GB RAM and FX1500.
The white screen sounds like a graphics driver issue....?
Cool, I'll check that out ....
