Re: Avid Marketing (DS) vs. Autodesk Marketing

DS marketing has been appalling. Really and truely and shamefully appalling.

So, is someone from Avid marketing going to step forward and stand behind their work? Is there someone from Avid marketing who is going to volunteer themselves as accountable for the state of DS marketing?

More importantly, would someone from Avid Marketing hold themselves responsible and accountable for all future DS marketing? Please.

    Cheers,
    Dec

Austoscreet has contacted me twice this week...

I downloaded the smoke mac eval and despite never e-mailing or chatting with anyone about it, someone from Autodesk called me the next day to see if I got everything downloaded and installed OK, and to ask if I had any questions.

    Marc Fish:

i haven't heard from an Avid rep since Bruno left Avid.

Who's the Avid rep in LA anyway? do we have one?

I don't think there is one in LA.  The last marketing person I spoke with came down from San Francisco. That was a few months ago, and that is the only marketing rep I've spoken to in the last 3 years. But then again, we only do 3 primetime network shows out of this room....

Well if there is one, they're obviously crap at their job.

    Maybe they are looking for one now;

market strategist to join Avid’s Market Solutions team, in the worldwide position of Market Solutions Director for the Independent Professionals market segment...
    From Avid Technology - 18 Mar 2010 00:55:00 GMT

    Are we "Independent Professionals"?

And the answer is... we ARE independant, and we ARE professionals

So hey, come on over and market soutions to us.....

On behalf of Brian Holter who cannot currently log in to the Avid site:

I am not quite as upset with DS' development pace right now as some of you are because the work
that I do on DS is not limited by any lack of development.  My concern has always been a lack of
knowledge in the industry about DS which makes it difficult for our sales team to sell DS as the tool our
clients need.  Maybe that's a sales and marketing problem from both sides.

That is true.  Now that I am back from NAB, one thing Avid could do is take a page from Apple and Autodesk.  This year at the Autodesk booth there were 6 or 7 Mac systems on the floor for hands-on training of McSmoke.  I got in on a class and learned just enough to pique my interest in the product. No, I did not drink the Kool-Aid, but it was just enough of a sip that I am going to investigate the product more.  Same thing at NAB a few years ago with Apple and FCP.  Hands on training/introduction right at the booth.

I would love to see Avid have several DS systems and MC systems set up at the booth for training and hands on experience of new software features.  The Avid method is very "push" or one way.  They tell you the information and then you leave.  I think you would get a ton more people considering DS  and MC if they had a small sip of the Avid Purple Kool-Aid right there on the floor.

I just thought I'd bump this long thread back up now that we have an Avid response (thanks, Vincent).
