This tutorial has nothing that experienced BCC users will need.
But for anyone venturing into the world of BCC filters, I hope it will provide a jumping off base for further learning.

Can this effect be done using Marquee?  There are those of us, students, who could barely scrape together the money to purchase the Academic MC.  Getting something like BCC would be out of the question.

doubt it.. I just discovered that all these lovely effects came free with MC4 and I'd never bothered to look in the goodie bag. Except that now I have to invest in a $1500 graphics card to use it properly :-(
