Hi,
can i use the PCI extender Magma PE6R4 expansion used for the protools cards to apply the PCI-X cards of the Nitris DNA on the PCI-express bus of the new HP z800 Workstation?
Thanks,
Michpin
No.
DS is supported with the Dual Link card ONLY on the z800. the last CPU to use the Nitris cards is the 8400.
Happy Editing!
Funky Dragon is correct. Support with the Nitris DNA hardware is, essentially, disabled once the DS sees the z800. But there are issues with the Nitris that make future support for it a bad plan.
The last hardware that could support Nitris was the xw8400 and that was with a special BIOS setting to slow down the PCI-x slots to 100 MHz. If the card that controls the Nitris DNA is operating faster than that, Avid DS Nitris will start with a Video L-HAL type error.
This is one reason why Avid chose to move to the AJA, because it can handle a bus speed that is higher than Nitris and Avid did not want to have to make a new breakout box for DS. The 100 MHz speed limitation would eventually prevent Avid from being able to upgrade CPUs to take advantage of newer advances in GPU hardware as well as faster processors.

No it isn't.
The Z800 doesn't have any suitable PCI-x slots, so the two Nitris boards that fit into the cpu cannot be used in the first place. When you think of Nitris, think Adrenaline - they're both EOL. XW8400 is the latest cpu that can be used with Nitris.
See this Avid DS Support page for supported configurations:
