Hi there
I'm currently running MC2.8.3 on PC at work and MC2.8.0 on old G5 imac at home, moving my dongle between the two.
My imac has just died, and I need to replace it, so a few questions :
Will all the new imacs just released run Media Composer ok?
Will there be any performance difference between the various graphics cards and processors, or are they all up to the job? Is the difference only relevant to gamers? How much RAM should I get?
I notice they've dropped Firewire 400 but that is what I use to capture from DV via DV to FW400 cable, do In just need to get a DV to FW800 cable? Does this also mean I can't connect my FW400 drives?
If I download MC3 for the new imac and update my dongle will it still work on the PC running 2.8.3?
Many thanks for any help!!!

Hi James, I don't know if this is of much help, but I have been running MC on a 2008 vintage iMac 20" 2.4 with an ATI Radeon HD 2400 graphics card so far without issue. I import P2 HD footage on to an external F/W 800 Raid and all works. I am currently on MC 3.1.2. I know that the new 2009 iMac's on the lower end now use NVIDEA graphics cards, but don't believe that this would be a issue.
Steve.
Regarding the firewire 400 issue, yes you just need a new lead.
You can get leads with an 800 plug at one end and a 400 plug at the other end.
I have been using one for my Lacie drive, ever since the firewire 400 socket stopped working.
