Currently, when editing keyboard short-cuts (Settings->Kyboard) if you press the Shift key, the display changes to show the short-cuts assigned to shifted key presses. This dialog needs to be updated so that the same functionality applies to the ALT and CTRL keys.
If I recall correctly from my old days in software engineering when our 'input console' was a teletype machine, the ALT and CTRL alone may not put out a signal that can be picked up like the Shift key can be. In that case, the ALT and CTRL keys should be selectable on the keyboard map (click, double-click, alt-click....), provide feedback that they are selected, (i.e. appear depressed or otherwise highlighted) then allow the usual short-cut mapping operations to the ALT or CTRL modified key of choice.

Agreed!! We definitley need to be able to assignm more keyboard shortcuts by allowing Alt, CTRL and any combination of alt, ctrl, shift in order to have not just two keyboards worth of shortcuts but many. I have wanted this for MANY years.
Lightworks does exactly that, and also allows other arbitrary key combinations. You can assign V1 to select video track 1 for example. That's not the best example I guess, but you take my point. It can be incredibly useful.
