Okay, I have Avid Xpress Pro HD 5.2.1 and I went to export my timeline as an MPEG 2 only to find that is not an option. I don't understand, did I forget to install something from the disc? Everything else is there, Quicktime, QT Reference, MPEG 4, etc, etc...but not MPEG 2 which I need in order to make DVDs.
I have serached the contents of the installation disc and can not find any application that I did not install. Is it possible Avid does not include MPEG 2 Export any more, as crazy as that would be? MPEG 2 was even included in Avid Xpress 3.5 when I had that, so I can't believe they wouldn't have it now.
Does anyone know how I can export my project as an MPEG 2...preferrably today. :)
Thanks!
You want to export as QT Reference or Movie and then compress with a third party program to mpeg2, in order to use it in your DVD authoring program. Some DVD authoring programs will do this for you too, but most of the ones I know do a bad job compressing.
Your Avid should have come with Sorenson Squeeze (unless you are using the academic version), which you can use to compress to mpeg2.
The best would be though if you read this thread first http://www.avid.com/exchange/forums/thread/4408.aspx
Scroll down to where it says "how to DVD"

No, I do have the full version of Avid, can anyone tell me how to open Sorenson Squeeze, as stupid a question as that may be.
In xpress 3.5, all you had to do was export your timeline and one of the options was to export as MPEG-2. Why the heck did they take that option out and make it more complicated?

Therein lies my problem, I have the full (not student), legal version of Avid 5.2.1, and installed the program and all additional software on the disc.
I did not see Sorenson Squeeze on there as a separate program to install. Does it install automatically as part of the Avid installation? Because it does not appear on the disc, and there definitely is no icon on which to click!
Thanks again!
Aha, I'll contact Avid because I do not have this disc...thanks for letting me know!!!
I also have academic and it took a bit of time to find all the pieces to arrive at a smooth and clean process for creating a DVD.
Click anywhere on the timeline (or make In/Out markers), then choose File menu/Export. Choose QT Reference above and Sorenson to DVD below in the dialog popup. Adjust settings as desired. I go with default and always select Use Markers and Use Enabled Tracks.
As mentioned above, use a 3rd party encoder (Cinema Craft Basic here) and it will output mpeg audio and video files. You can use the original QT ref wav file for audio if desired. If you go with CCE Basic, I highly recommend reading or downloading the 60 page user manual--it has a LOT of info on advanced settings.
Import the files into your DVD authoring program--done!
Hi, Pls help me to export timeline sequence directly to mpeg-2 HD PAL 1920x1080-50i for Avid Media Composer 6.0. Why Premiere Pro CC can export to mpeg-2 but Avid Media Composer can not, export option of Avid is very weak in reality.
Thanks,
No anyone can help!

Hi, you of course realize that you are posting in a 10 year old Express Pro thread,
About your wanted export options later versions of Avid might be able to do what you want.
Another option, if you cannot upgrade and as mentioned all over the place , is to do a mixdown to dnx and replace , then send out a qt ref to your external encoder.
