I would like to create a funding page to support the upgrading of the basic non Marquee title tool to 64 bit to run on modern Macs. Is this possible? Yes I understand modern windows can run 32 bit software and we cannot which sort of stinks but thats what it is. This is all we need for basic screen directions etc. This would be great while we wait for Titler + to be fixed or useable. Don't want to use Subcap ot TC generator either.
I'm personally curious how much it costs to develop a tool like the titler plus?? I have no idea....
Hundreds? Thousands? Millions?

There've been a few others, here and in social sites, who have posted a very similar message as this.
Unfortunately the reason why Avid didn't simply fix or upgrade the classic Title Tool is technical, and has nothing to do with budget or intention. Apple themselves physically stopped supporting a massive swath of the underlying codework in the classic Title Tool. Whole functions and abilities stopped working in the new post-Catalina ecosystem... and the ability to simply replace everything with new stuff that works wasn't possible.

Ok so Avid didn't keep up with the tech world and has an anti Mac bias. I get it. Please Avid create a simple modern text tool so we don't have to waste valuable time using 3rd party text creation tools that work. It really shouldn't be that difficult for a multi million dollar company who started the whole NLE thing and was the only kid on the block for so many years. I mean look at how out of date this message board is-geez doesn't even support a png file.
Rewrite a simple text tool so we don't have to do a unpleasent hack on sub cap or TC generator. It is a tremendous waste of time to have to go to other apps to create text simple or complicated and Titler + I am sad to say is at least to me unusable. Maybe it's me.
Thanks for all the great responses

And what is the reason for the current status of Titler+ ?
I don't get this argument that it can't be done for technical reasons? Just re-write it with modern code but copy everything in the original? How hard can that be? That sounds like a side-project for an intern not some staggering feat of technical complexity.

... as opposed to philosophical, semantic, or just plain preferable? Of course it's "technical", as writing code tends to be. More than four years ago - when Titler+ was introduced! - someone had decided it would be "easier" to create a new tool instead of recoding the 32bit Title Tool. Someone made a huge, huge mistake, and Avid users are still paying for it years down the road. With so much time now invested in Titler+, and Avid folks here continuing to make years of empty promises (as in getting to a working 64bit character generator) AND clinging to the "shambolic piece of dog turd" that Titler+ is, I see little hope that Avid will fix this. The Title Tool was basic at best, but worked - and working apps are what we like.

I can kinda, sorta see Avid's point that if they simply updated the old title tool functionality to 64bit we'd all be here complaining about all the things it doesn't do.
Look how far we've come that we're wishing for that. /s
LOL. You made me smile. I think we probably would complain but as it stands we have nothing but clunky work arounds like subcap and TC generator to make text. Who knows where the fault lies but Avid should do better. Titler + is an unmitigated piece of you know what which crashes avids and makes even the most tech savvy people scratch their heads. A large percentage of us just want a simple title tool to may cards like "Scene Missing" or to quote an ADR line. I hated working in Premiere Pro but the title tool was great. As someone who has been working on Avid since the late 1990s I have never heard so much acrimony towards MC. People who would never use other NLEs are would are and they are cheaper too. The bugs I get every update date back some 20 years.
On a positive note 2021.12 has been rock solid. Not one crash Thanks.

I think thats true to a degree but there are lots of users who found the old title tool perfectly usable and at most wanted some of the legacy bugs fixed.
I'm sure converting the code wasn't an option. But I can't accept it was impossible to recreate the old functionality with new code. Nothing the old title tool did was specifically possible only due to old code.
It was a choice, I understand, to take the oppertunity to produce something better and more functional. The mistake I see was dropping the simple functionality of the old title tool. That should have been the starting point.

I wish Avid could just create a new basic title tool that built precomputed mattes that I could use on my timeline, without rendering.
Creating simple text is key to my editing workflow. Whether it's to write out temp titles, describe a missing shot or remark 'temp gfx' for the viewer. I use these mattes as I would any other clip in my timeline. I'll subclip them to length, place them in my bins and move them around in the timeline. There's no way I can use Titler + in this way, so its now quicker for me to have Photoshop or AE open in another window to do basic text.

JUST. BUILD. A. 64-BIT. UHD CAPABLE. CLASSIC. TITLE. TOOL. PLEASE!
IT CAN'T POSSIBLY BE MORE COMPLICATED OR TIME CONSUMING THAN TRYING TO FIX TITLER+. IT'S NEVER GOING TO BE GOOD ENOUGH. PUT IT IN THE BIN WHERE IT BELONGS AND START AGAIN.
Sorry for shouting, But it's getting harder and harder to justify keeping my projects in Avid when I have to use other software for such a simple task! It doesn't need to be fancy, it doesn't need to be special. It just needs to work in the same unspectacular way the old title tool did. Surely the brains at Avid could build somethng like that? If you want a fancy title tool with bells and whistles, just purchase a working one from Boris and make it part of the software. It's beyond ludicrous that I need to use Adobe Premiere or After Effects to create a simple static lower third or end credits that won't crash my computer or take me half an hour just to adjust the kerning.
Please!!!

Premiere or After Effects for static titles!? Heck, just use Photoshop.
Or resolve... It's free!!
Photoshop, Resolve, After Effects... The fact that any of these are needed to do a basic title efficiently is beyond a joke.
