dual-roller trim through multiple edit points?

    Hello there,

For many years I have wondered; "what is the shortcut/option key that will allow me to do this?" In the back of my mind is the nagging thought that I once performed this operation, but perhaps it was a dream.

In the image below I want to drag the roller at the cursor back through the previous edits in one foul swoop, is it possible?

Oops, thank you. The forum design is beautifully reminescent of the 90's.

    Hey, it is indeed!

One way you could do this is:

Target your tracks in the track targeting panel. Hit U to get into dual roller trim mode at the nearest edit point, then hit the M, <, > or ? keys to move that trim forward or backwards, one frame of 5 frames.

Otherwise, look at the extend function. target the tracks, mark an in or out point, and hit extend.

    Hope that helps.

Re: dual-roller trim through multiple edit points?

Hi Philip, thanks for your response.

The extend tool is interesting, and it seems to be able to almost do what I want, however - it;'s not as straight forwad as using the dual roller tool.

Now, when I'm using the dual roller what happens is it gets stuck at the first edit point, and what I want it to do is keep rolling without stopping until it gets through all the previous edit points. I was hoping it might be a modifier key that could be used while dragging the roller backwards through the sequence...

If I understand what you are trying to achieve I would Mark Out  at my start point, Go back to my first edit, Go to previous edit multiple times) and Mark in. Make sure only the tracks I want to affect are selectrd. Then Lift the selection. Trim backward from the original mark out to the previous edit.

There are KB short cuts for all actions in this process.

Just a slightly different way to

Otherwise, look at the extend function. target the tracks, mark an in or out point, and hit extend.

Ah yes, this lifting technique does achieve the result I am looking for!

It is a few more clicks and pushes than I was hoping for, but never the less, a solution. Thank you.

Re: dual-roller trim through multiple edit points?

Talking about Trim mode... I have this bug on the Mac version. Does it affect you guys on PC?

You may know this cool shortcut: make a complex trim with yellow rollers in different directions on many tracks, exit the Trim mode by clicking on the timeline roller, then hold ALT and click on the Trim button and it brings you right back into your supercomplicated yellow rollers. It's such a time saver.

Well, it doesn't work anymore. When I ALT click on the Trim button, it brings some of the rollers back where they were last, and some are dual purple.

Having checked twice, it only affects the video tracks. Audio tracks yellow rollers do come back to how they were selected.

Annoying because it's such a cool feature.
