Folks: Thanks for the forum availability. Here’s my issue(s) –
Working on a Dell XPS desktop with Intel i7 3.60 GHz quad core, 32 GB RAM, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit running Avid Media Composer v8.5.2. Trying to do some “Ken Burns” moves on still images – the slow pan/tilt across a high rez picture. I have tried both AVID Pan and Zoom and Boris Continuum Complete Pan and Zoom with the same (read: NO) effect. After dropping the effect onto the image in the Timeline, the prompt is to Select Image -> so I navigate to my file (it’s my understanding AVID won’t work with *.TIFFs so I transcoded my media to *.JPEGs) and as soon as I select the file, the Playback window goes black.
There is a drop-down to choose to view Background Color or Video – if I have cut the desired image onto the Timeline and THEN choose Video here, I can see the image but cannot manipulate it, do any moves, etc.
I’ve read that super huge file sizes don’t work well (but that’s where we get the best image quality…?!) and it’s best to have the image in as high-level a folder as possible, so Avid doesn’t have to go searching.
I know I’ve used this effect in the past; anybody have any suggestions as to what I’m missing here?
Thanks, as always. Tom

You can have a background clip here if you want the Pan and Zoom over a background image. I do not believe it works dropped onto Avid black filler.. Drop the P & Z effect on your clip selection. In the effect editor select the image to import for your pan and zoom. Select TARGET in the view mode option. Adjust size and placement as desired.
From my memory the effect works with .psd, .jpeg and .png files not sure about .tiff's Ran a quick check here with a .jpeg I had handy with MC 2022.12 and I had no issues.
Andrew: Thanks for the reply. I might hit you up again as some specifics of your instructions evade me but this gives me something to try. Will get back... Tom
And this seems to do the trick! Needed to interpret a setting here and there but ended up getting what I needed. Thanks so much! TC
Sorry I was not clearer. Great you got it to work for you. It was a good relearning experience for me to try a P & Z for the first time in many years, after multiple MC UI updates. Andrew
