Hello,
If I need to add a VFX with After Effects from my edited video with Avid Media, what do I have to do?
Exporting from Avid Media to After Effects need an mp4 file? what do I have to do After have finished to add the VFX and going to color correct the video on DaVinci Resolve? Should I create an AAF file from After Effects to DaVinci Resolve and adding the RAW original files?
Thank You
Generally you can AAF sequences from Avid to AE. Try to keep the sub-sequences closely trimmed so you don't end up with hundreds of unnecessary layers in your AE comp.
The whole point of AE its to do complex effects, so you will almost always want to export your AE comps as individual high-quality clips which can be used in either Avid or Resolve. If you import or link your new clips into Avid, they will be treated by Resolve the same as any other clip coming from Avid.
thank you
So, it's more common to export a file from AE to Avid Media for editing it than the opposite?
It's more rare to work an edited video in AE for adding VFX?
It depends.
Your scenario, as I understand it, you have done your basic edit in Avid, are doing VFX on a few shots in AE, completing your edit in Avid and going to Resolve to finish. Is that not correct? That is probably the most common way to do it.
In any case, unless you are using Premiere, After Effects comps have to be rendered as a new piece of media to be used in other software.
Yes, I added some VFX to some of the clips that I'm editing before the edit, but after have edited the footage, I needed to put other VFX so, at a completed editing I thought to export the whole edit and finish only to put this VFX and from AE going to DaVinci Resolve that's all
You can certainly output your entire sequence from After Effects rather than Avid, but it's clunkier because AE puts every single edit on its own track. When you render out a single-stream output from AE, you then have to do cut detection in Resolve to break it up again -- and the footage can't be traced back to its source.
It's certainly doable, but you're just making extra work for yourself that way.
For many of the reason smrpix has stated, I generally only send a shot to AE that need work. And often I add handles. As for the AAF from Avid to AE. This may not be possible any more with current versions of AE. Info is confusing and I have not had a chance to experiment. But due to 32 bit / 64 bit os issues, I think the ProImport tool in AE has gone away. I hope not, but you should double check. There are some workarounds that might not work for all people.
Good luck,
Jef
