This has been very much asked for by editors and post sups who need editors to have over the shoulder workflows for reviewing content and eliminate a lot of complexity with other solutions in the market.
Mercer: Dom Q. Silverio:The bandwidth demand will be much higher than Teradici, zCentral, Jump, Splashtop. MC Enterprise licenses. Edge hardware and license. etc. etc. Yes another badly thought out move by Avid. No editor (the real end consumer for MC that matters) cared about or wanted SRT either. In the UK the vast majority of facilities and broadcasters are on 2018, 2020 at most, QC testing and stability prevent anything else and they will not buy Enterprise licences for freelancers. Together with subscription all these things seem like, as one prominent industry CEO called it, 'treating your loyal customers like prisoners'.

Many facilities have invested in Media Composer Enterprise. You also need Distributed Processing for NEXIS Edge, this assists in the proxy creation. DP is included with Media Composer Enterprise along with the NEXIS Edge services.
Mercer: Just to be clear, although it seems pretty clear from the documentation, you would require the Enterprise version remotely to use the new Nexis/Edge workflow? That excludes Ultimate and full Perpetual? It doesn't really seem to be a Teradici/Z Central killer does it, in that even facilities are unlikely to invest in remote Enterprise seats either? Are we likely to see a roll-out to the other licences?

Yes they may well have, Dave - I'm talking about remote Enterprise licences for freelance editors. As Dom mentioned, they are unlikely to give up Teradici/Z Central et al and invest in a lot of Enterprise software licences to hand out to these editors, at least I'm seeing no sign of it here (any kind of licence, that is since Edge is new; only happened in the early days of the pandemic, before remote worked well) and I work across a huge selection of the leading UK facilities too.
You really need to develop this functionality into Ultimate and Perpetual full MC as well, then the requirement for extra investment is muted and it becomes an alternative to the other remote choices, which would be nice. Only Quadrus (apart from your Edge now) at the moment, I know of allows remote Nexis media use with a local MC edit sytstem, as opposed to merely a remote desktop, and it works rather well. Though the problem will still remain that many editors do not own their own licences and therefore remote desktop solutions still work out much cheaper, for facilities and are working very well right now.
Yes, Understood, not the first use case we were going for with V1, but I hear your feedback, I'll see what I can do

Thank you, Dave - appreciated.

ck123: Riddle me this Avid, Why is Copy Media in Media Composer 22.10 a Nexis Edge only function? This feature reads as the new Media Mover tool people have been begging Avid for for over 10 years. This feature sounds amazing. Release it from Nexis Edge. Let me use this on prem to copy bins to drives. So WOW!

I totally agree. And the Edge proxy workflow should work with Ultimate / Nexis enviroment. Way much easier than the transcoding / relinking process.

Can anyone confirm that the Avid Nitris DX still is working under 2022.10? There is no mentioning of it anymore in the current readme file.
Usually there is the well known notice about to install the DX driver separately. It seems that it appeared for the last time in the 2022.7 readme.
I don't want to take the risk installing 2022.10 and then to have roll back to an earlier version.
Thanks in advanced!

Ain't this the truth. I've told one facility I would prefer not to edit there any more on the new version as I dont have stable workspaces (they keep resetting/going haywire) or when i press 'effect mode' I never get the effect window connecting to the timeline effect. Small but huge.
I lapsed my support contract after over 10 years on my own system (reseller said I was one of many) as I just cant get the messy bins unintuitive 2020 vers to play nicely. Maybe I fight it, maybe I dont understand it despite watching YouTube gurus, maybe it is awful and unintuitve (alt+shift+ CTRL+right click + hop to dock a bin on a flashy white mouse pointer ) - but it paid for my house so I'm no newbie! Winter is coming
Ultimate 2022.12.1, Blackmagic Intensity Pro, WIN 11 on 7000Mbps M.2 SSD, Nvidia Quadro P4000, Asus Pro Art Z690 i9 12900k 5.0 GHz, 8TB M.2 SSD - its nippy!
FYI - 73% of registered users are using the newer UI
Does creating a proxy have to be accompanied by these processes, or can I just set it up and forget about it?
