i dont know if its beause the basemodel has too little ram (16gb) but MC is crashing so often i will have to get back to the old windows workstation at work.
its terrible.
i was trying to use MC with my 16 mbp toghether with a studio display at home... sad it is so unstable
Avid requires 32GB RAM or more. So yeah, that's probably the issue.
There are enough problems with the current Avid software so frankly I think complaining about it crashing on underpowered hardware is a waste of bandwidth.
absolutely, didnt know that avid had this requirement.
will get the m1max as soon as possible then. its really not possible to work with.
Have you tried to disable dual copy engine? When on a multiple screen configuration using fullscreen playback instead of a dedicated IO box I have experienced constant crashing. Things get better when dualcopy is disabled but fullscreen playback and multiple monitor is the problem on my m1max. When plugged to an IO box I can have multiple monitors and dual copy enabled and the system is stable.
have to check. i was not working with full screen at all at home. just sometimes, but then i would connect with the bm ultrastudio mini
Hi. I have m1 max 64gb ram and MC crashes all the time too. So I don't think that this is because of lack of ram. My friend uses MacBook Pro 15 2015 with 16gb of ram and it is much more stable than mine. So I think it's an apple silicon problem.
I thought 16GB was the minimum? OK for me on an older MacBook. Not encountered the new M1 models yet.

I have an M1 Max w/64GB RAM and 8TB SSD. Over the past year, I have never had so many crashes in my 25+ years using Avid. My personal sense is that it has something to do with the AMA linking. Projects that have no AMA linking seem more stable. Those with AMA tend to "beach ball" crash repeatedly, requiring multiple restarts/reboots to get it to randomly work again. This may or may not be the reason why, but that's my intuition. This has become such a problem for me that I am starting to transition my workflow to Adobe Premiere, which is saying alot after being a hardcore MC fan for a couple of decades.
yes. ive bought the mac studio base model with just 32gb last week and its faster in between the beach balls... but still same thing crashing all the time.
especially im doing some effects layering now (but for any other nle very simple) like 3 pngs above eachoterh with blendx effects and 3d warp for moving and opacity. cant build anything it crashes all the time. horrible.
