This can happen if you have an 'empty' drive (no media), typically a card reader or a usb to sata adapter, mounted.

Try to disable the drive in the bios or see if you can remove the drive letter in disk management.

Ahh thankyou! It could be the 16tb G-raid with no AVID Media Folders on it. It's also HFS+ running via MacDrive just to add to the confusion.

Seems to open much faster when everything (Nexus, Drives etc) are unmounted. But I'll sadly need to have these drives mounted to work. Blasting away the MC state and AMA folders only reduced opening time to around 12 minute, which is an improvement.

Although 12 minutes is still too long, unless it is indexing Avid Mediafiles folders, you understand where it comes from.

As you said you already freshly rebuild, I assume doing a windows 10/11 reset, a Z4, I assume you were able to test the system without HFS+, any external drives, nexis client and/or other network drives mounted. In other words a clean Z4 with only windows and Media composer. That should be opening normally. If it is not you need to start investigating the basic setup.

Regarding Nexis. In any network, duplicate IP conflicts and duplicate hostnames, can cause big problems. Nexis is especially sensitive to this. If 2 machines with the same hostname exist on a network, the editors often keep having crashes, issues trying to write pmr/mdb files to the same location or start scanning eachothers files.

Finally, avoid Nexis client 2021.5.x and 2021.8.x. It can randomly block access to folders on the Nexis.

Have you check the health of your drives? This sounds like a failing drive. You can download a program called Hard Disk Sentinel and it can give you a health gauge for you drives.
