Hi Avid community,
I'm looking at the base 16" Macbook Pro as I can get it at a good price. In the Qualified Apple Systems document it states that 16gb is not qualified - however I am would like to hear how it was using it for those that have tried it? And if you have any optimization recommendations?
Ideally, I should have had at least 32gb - but that is not an option for me this time around. Most likely will replace this base model in the future with an upgraded one, so the discussion is not about wether an upgraded one would be better (It would, obviously) but whats possible with the base model.
cheers!
Hey!
16GB of RAM is fine. 32 should really be your minimum but everything will work with 16 GB.
What do you need the system for? offline editing?

From what I can gather, the memory usage with Apple Silicon is more efficient (aka less) than AMD/Intel based architecture. However, note that the memory is shared with the video processor. So in software like Resolve, you can easily consume 4, 8 or 12 GB of memory just for the GPU.
That being said, Avid's video memory utilization is fairly low. 16GB should more sufficient for HD based projects and maybe in some instances, even 4K/UHD.

Thanks both of you. I received the computer this week, so will test it out in the coming days. It will be used for a feature doc edit, preferably in 4k - but we'll see whats possible.
How did you find running MC on your M1 Pro with 16GB of ram?
What's your feedback since August ? any problem with de 16GB ram ?
