    Unable to start Media Composer

Short version: I uninstalled Media_Composer_2018.12.3_Win from my system recently.  Now that I have resintalled it (and no audio hardware or software has changed), MC won't start up.

First thing that happens is MC warns me that "Quicktime is not installed on this computer".  Oh, but it is, MC, it is.  Version 7.7.9 (1680.95.84, to be precise).

Then, MC warns me "Unable to initialize audio effect and mixing system.  Continue with limited audio capability?"  To which I answer "Ok."

    Then...

"Exception:AParamItem::UniqueIdentifierToParamID - unable to convert UID to paramID"

Startup hangs on "Initializing audio devices" then MC "whites out" and never starts.

So........ here are the relevant system details:

    Windows 10 Pro 64 bit
    build 10.0.19044
    Intel i9-7940X CPU (28 cores)
    RAM - 128 GB
    NVidia GeForce GTX 1070
    driver - 471.68-desktop-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch-whql
Sound adapter - Focusrite Saffire PRO 14 - driver version 4.3.0.41017 (using Saffire MixControl 3.7 as virtual mixer)
    QuickTime 7 is installed

Let me stress again that this setup worked with the same version of MC 6 months ago on the same hardware with the same drivers.

Anybody got a clue they can throw me?

Re: Unable to start Media Composer

    UPDATE #1
Well, it looks like MC finally recognized that QuickTime was installed on the system since I am not getting that error message on MC startup any longer.

It seems that the ancient but still fully-functional Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 is the culprit for the sound problems; apparently, I am no longer able to make the Saffire stop cycling through the four available sample rates and that's screwing up MC's start-up.  Okay, so I ordered a new audio interface which should be arriving tomorrow.

    However...

Even with QT installation recognized and all sound devices temporarily uninstalled, MC still throws the

"Exception:AParamItem::UniqueIdentifierToParamID - unable to convert UID to paramID"

    error window then quits.

    Anyone?

Re: Unable to start Media Composer

Don't mind me, just talking to myself in here...
I uninstalled this version of Avid and installed 2018.12.15, which worked a few times but then stopped... but that is another thread.
