Snap to Grid for bin thumbnails

I waste so much time every day trying to get bin thumbnails to line up nicely so they don't look messy to my editor. Can there be a Snap to Grid option for bin thumbnails to make this process easier? It'd be nice to be able to turn it off if we need more fine adjustment; but it would save me time every day in dailies.

    Hi there,

Try right clicking the bin > Align and fill > Align to grid

You might also want to try faffing about with

Right click the bin > Snap to grid > Enable

I have align to grid mapped to ; on my keyboard via menu to button reassignment.

Re: Snap to Grid for bin thumbnails

I'm on a Mac, so right clicking doesn't offer Align and Fill option.

I see it in Bin Menu. When I select this, it resets my thumbnails so all the time I spent arranging them the way the editor wants is wasted (there's no undo).

I don't see a Snap to Grid option on Mac.

    Ahh I see, understood.

These are features available in the later versions. I'm unsure if 2018 has an equivilant feature, perhaps someone with more experiance with that particuar version might be able to tell you.

newer versions do exactly what you want them to do and its great.

i can now have one big superbin with all my favorite shots grouped how i like in thumbnail view and they confrom to the grid/grouping as you scale the thumbnails up or down. love it.

    time for an upgrade maybe?

Am I missing something? Isn't Fill Window what you need? Right click some empty space in the bin and Fill Window will align all your thumbnails in to a grid based on the size of your bin. This respects any manual ordering you may have done with the thumbnails already.

Fill sorted will do the same except additionally ordering your clips by clip type.

Re: Snap to Grid for bin thumbnails

The scripted editors I've worked for like dailies to be organized in thumbnail view in a variety of customized ways (ex. A, B, and C cam + group clip together, takes for each set up separated from takes of a diffferent set up, etc.). If I select "Fill Window as Sorted", it will reset all my customized work.
